Two Harvey County teenagers lose their mother in a car accident, just six months after their father was killed in another car accident.
Sunday night, 39-year-old Beverly Rutschman died after the truck she was riding in crashed into a creek. Her 18-year-old son was driving. His two friends were in the back seat. They were all taken to Wichita hospitals.
The Harvey County sheriff says they're still investigating Sunday night's accident. They don't know yet what caused Corey Rutschman to leave the road. But a family friend says what they do know is Corey and his brother are going to need a lot of support and a lot of help.
“They're just good farm kids that have just had more than their fair share of grief and heartache, especially in the last six months,” Jana McKinney said.
On March 31, Alan Rutschman was driving on Mission Road in Harvey County early in the morning when he somehow left the road, hit a tree, and died.
"It was extremely hard - he was their rock, The boys were extremely close to Alan. It was hard, really hard,” McKinney said.
McKinney says the entire Hesston community rallied together to help Beverly, 18-year-old Corey, and 16-year-old Kyle Rutschman. Now, she says the community needs to rally again this time to help the two boys. She tells us she got a phone call early Monday morning from Kyle.
“He said that they had been in an accident, Corey was driving, the three boys had been life watched and that his mom had died. And I said Kyle, 'What do you mean?' And he said 'She died. She was in the car and she died,'” McKinney said.
Sheriff T. Walton says around 9 p.m. Sunday night Corey was driving on Woodbury road and instead of taking the curve, somehow drove into the creek. His mother Beverly was partially ejected and died.
"Our prayers go out to the family and we hope, we just hope that they can come through this and have a good support system behind them,” Walton said.
"It's hard as an adult to process that kind of loss I can not imagine how heart breaking it is if it is your mom and your dad and now it's just you and your brother,” McKinney said.
Corey, the oldest, is in college. It hasn't been decided where Kyle will live but they do have family nearby, including grandparents who live in Hesston and Newton.
Family friends have already set up a fund for donations in Corey and Kyle Rutschman's names at the First Bank of Newton, Hesston branch.

One person has died from injuries after a rollover crash near the Reno-Harvey County line.
Crews were called to the scene near Woodberry and Dutch around 9 p.m. Sunday. The Harvey County Sheriff's department said a pickup drove down a 20 ft. embankment, landing in the Blaze Fork Creek.
The driver, Cory Rutschman, 18, of Newton was taken to a Wichita hospital for treatment. His mother, Beverly Rutschman, 39, was thrown from the pickup truck and trapped under the vehicle in the water. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Two other passengers, Spencer Fast, 18, of Moundridge, and Chad Janzen, 19, of Hesston, remain hospitalized in Wichita.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
 
Four people were injured in a rollover accident near Buhler late Monday night.
It happened Monday night around 9:00 near the Harvey-Reno county line at 82nd Avenue and Woodberry Road.
The Reno County Sheriff's Office tells KAKE News only one car was involved. The driver lost control of the car and it rolled over into a creekbed.
Four people were in the car when it crashed. They were all injured to some extent.
Two people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
